Plain English first:
We collect your email when you take the assessment or join the waitlist. We use it to send you your results and occasionally share product updates. We don't sell it, share it with third parties, or use it to advertise to you. That's it.
The formal version is below, but that's the whole story.
Who we are
dovetell is a context orchestration layer for AI-assisted software teams, built by John Chromchak in Mount Pleasant, SC. You can reach us at hello@dovetell.io.
This policy applies to dovetell.io and all pages on that domain, including the Team AI Maturity Assessment.
What we collect
When you take the assessment:
- Email address (required — used to send your results and unique tracking link)
- Role, team size, company, industry (optional — helps us understand who's using dovetell)
- Primary AI tool, how you found us (optional — helps us improve)
- Your assessment answers and scores
- A project ID (pid) and run ID (uid) — random identifiers used to track your progress over time
When you join the waitlist:
Automatically via analytics:
- Page views and referrer source via Plausible Analytics — privacy-first, no cookies, no personal data, no cross-site tracking. Plausible's privacy policy →
What we don't collect
- No cookies (except what Plausible uses — which is none)
- No tracking pixels or third-party advertising tags
- No payment information (Gumroad handles all transactions)
- No passwords — we don't have accounts yet
- No device fingerprinting
How we use what we collect
- To send your results — your email is used to deliver your assessment score, gap analysis, and unique tracking link
- To track your progress — your pid links multiple assessment runs so you can see how your team matures over time
- To improve the product — aggregate scores and demographic data help us understand what our users need
- To send product updates — occasional emails about dovetell when there's something worth telling you. You can opt out any time by replying "unsubscribe"
- To respond to you — if you reply to an email from us, we use your email to respond
Who we share it with
We use a small number of third-party services to operate dovetell. Each receives only the minimum data needed:
- Formspree — processes form submissions (assessment gate, waitlist). Your submission data passes through their servers. Formspree privacy policy →
- Plausible Analytics — privacy-first analytics. No personal data shared. Plausible privacy policy →
- GitHub Pages — hosts this website. GitHub may log IP addresses as part of standard server operation. GitHub privacy policy →
- Gumroad — processes purchases. If you buy something, Gumroad handles payment and delivery. We receive your email to fulfill the order. Gumroad privacy policy →
We do not sell your data. We do not share your data with advertisers. We do not use your data for any purpose beyond operating dovetell.
How long we keep it
Assessment submissions are stored in Formspree for as long as we maintain the account. Waitlist emails are stored until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them.
When we build a proper backend (Postgres database), we'll migrate this data and update this policy accordingly.
Your rights
You can ask us to:
- Show you what data we have about you
- Delete your data from our systems
- Stop sending you emails
- Correct inaccurate information
Just email us at hello@dovetell.io and we'll take care of it. We're a small team — you'll hear back from a human.
Changes to this policy
We'll update this page when anything meaningful changes. The "last updated" date at the top will change when we do. If the changes are significant, we'll email you.
